📋 Complete Step-by-Step Guide
Follow these steps if Windows blocks the download or installation:
Step 1: Bypass Browser Download Warning
Problem: Browser shows "This file is not commonly downloaded and may be dangerous"
🌐 Microsoft Edge / Chrome:
- Click the download to view details
- Click the "..." (three dots) menu
- Select "Keep"
- Confirm "Keep anyway"
🦊 Firefox:
- Click the downloads arrow (top-right)
- Right-click the blocked file
- Select "Unblock"
✅ Result: File downloads successfully to your Downloads folder
Step 2: Restore from Windows Defender (if quarantined)
Problem: File disappears after download or Windows Defender blocks it
- Open Windows Security (search in Start menu)
- Click "Virus & threat protection"
- Click "Protection history"
- Find "Install-SODA_1.6.0.exe" in the list
- Click "Actions" → "Allow on device"
- Confirm the action

Step 3: Unblock the Downloaded File

Windows SmartScreen protects users by checking file reputation. New software without thousands of downloads triggers warnings until reputation is established.
- This is normal for beta software - even legitimate applications show these warnings initially
- The file is safe - it's simply not yet widely distributed
- Commercial release will use an EV certificate for instant trust (coming in v1.9.0)

Need to completely remove SODA+ AI for testing?
This PowerShell script performs a complete removal that goes beyond Windows' normal uninstall. It's designed for beta testers who need a clean slate between versions.
What it does:
- Uninstalls all SODA+ AI AppX packages
- Removes the security certificate from Trusted Root
- Removes Start Menu and Desktop shortcuts
- Optionally deletes leftover data files (including MermaidRenderer temp files)
When to use:
- Testing fresh installations between beta versions
- Troubleshooting installation issues
- Complete removal before installing production release
⚠️ WARNING: This removes ALL SODA+ AI data including your settings!
This is MORE thorough than Windows "Uninstall". Only use if you want a complete reset.
How to run: Right-click → "Run with PowerShell" (requires Administrator privileges)
💡 Tip: Regular users should use Windows "Settings → Apps" to uninstall. This tool is for advanced testing scenarios.
❓ About the Certificate
This beta uses a self-signed certificate to enable installation on Windows. The installer will request Administrator permission once to add this certificate to your trusted store. This is a standard security practice for beta software.
The v1.9.0 production release will use a commercial code-signing certificate, which eliminates the need for manual approval.
